Just a few hours old "I think I'll get a short nap. You kids go ahead and eat." Just a few hours old. CeCe whelped her puppies on Thursday, April 24th. This was right on schedule. There are 2 males and 4 females all weighing in at between 12 and 13 ounces each. The puppies all look healthy and active, and, of course, HUNGRY. Momma CeCe is being an excellent mother caring for her new family. Day 3 The puppies are doing just great. They are eating well and are having fun exploring all the corners of the whelping box. Of course, the best thing is to find more to eat. CeCe has found a novel way to nurse. While most moms like to lay on their sides to nurse, CeCe prefers to sit up half way. She thinks she can keep a closer eye on the babies. Into the weighing basket we go. Miss Purple Saturday night, mom decided she wanted to shred to newspapers, but Ella told the entire household, and woke Renee up to investigate. Mother-hood does strange things to the girls. The puppies are nice and warm, as winter seems to have let go in part, although we found snow and ice on the cars this morning. Nursing while sitting Now that is a pretty cute face! Miss Purple 1 Week Old The tails have been docked and have healed well. We continue to gain weight and be more active. The puppies have also discovered that they can talk, and do they ever enjoy it. Squeak, squeak, squeak........ 3 Weeks Old "The Sophi Flip" The Sophi Flip, just like my Grandma does. Grandma Sophi has done the Sophi Flip since she was a young baby, and ever since, she flips onto her back every night and waits for Renee or Jim to rub her tummy. Some nights are especially demanding and Sophi  may do her "Flip" several times. She has even been known to flip in the middle of the night and then nudge Renee or Jim for her rub. The Great Escape We have figured a way to escape from the whelping box. We had a wonderful time running around on the floor, playing with the carpet, and peeking into the water bowl. By the time mommy Renee came home, we were just too tired to play anymore so off to sleep we went. Dinner Time We have had a busy week. On our two week birthday our eyes opened and we began to explore. We are now able to get out of the box. We are barking and beginning to play with each other. Nap Time The Boys 3 Weeks We have decided that food in a bowl is ALMOST as good as mom.  Boy can we eat. 4 1/2 weeks We love playing with our squeaky toys and soft fuzzy toys. Miss Purple 4 1/2 weeks 4 1/2 weeks Miss Pink Mr. Blue 6 weeks Mr. Green plays in the tall green grass 6 weeks Pink is a very pretty girl 7 weeks Red guards her toy 7 weeks "So..can I play with this, or what?" Purple 7 weeks June 15th It is time to get some sunshine, so out to the backyard we go.... The first time on grass is always an exciting time for the puppies, and with a larger X-pens, they can have races galore. Watch out for the eagles and hawks, though, as we have plenty of those around the homestead. "Don't worry mom, I'll keep an eye out for those mean birds. Let the races begin !! "You can't catch me..." "Running is just so much fun I can't beleive it."
